Simon Hayward
Partner
Simon has worked in the insurance industry for over 15 years with the last 12 years at CR International (Cambiaso Risso) and prior that 4 years at Thomas Miller.
At CR he began as a War and K&R Broker and progressed to being Head of Marine of one of the largest Marine Brokers worldwide. He played a key role in building an office of 5 to almost 40 staff by the time of his departure and in doing so exceeded annual budgets regularly. One of Simon’s key achievements was growing a London office which previously was almost entirely reliant on worldwide group production to 40% London production in the space of 7 years.
His previous experience includes many different types of marine tonnage, record and domicile, and this has given him a very high level of experience and working knowledge.
Josh Hoy
Partner
Josh started his career in insurance in 2011 and worked in varying classes until moving into his first marine role in 2013 when he joined Cooper Gay. Initially, Josh worked as a Claims Broker in the Marine Hull and P&I team where he built a solid base of knowledge in marine coverage. He then moved into the broking team in 2016 at companies CGNMB and Ed Broking before joining up with Simon at CR International in a Senior Broking role in 2022. Josh has established a career in Marine Hull, War and P&I Insurance lines.
Simon and Josh have known each other for almost 25 years having studied together before both following career paths into the Insurance industry.
Mike Serghi
Claims Manager
Michael Serghi is Claims Manager at Hayward Hoy, where he is responsible for claims management, technical oversight, market engagement and client advocacy.
Mike began his career in Marine claims in 2015 as an Average Adjuster with Francis & Arnold, following completion of his Law Degree at the University of Hertfordshire.
He later moved into claims broking with Tysers, handling Hull & Machinery and Ports and Terminals claims, before joining Chubb as a Marine Claims Adjuster managing international blue and brown-water claims. Mike was appointed Claims Manager at One Global Broking in 2022 then later as Claims Director at BMS Harris & Dixon Marine, leading the global Hull & Machinery, P&I, Cargo, and Marine Liability claims function.
Lewis Barrett
Broker
Lewis began his career at Howden as an Account Handler within the Marine division and specifically the Middle East team, where he built a strong foundation across Hull & Machinery, War, Liabilities, and Kidnap & Ransom insurance.
He later joined Miller as a Broker/Account Handler in the Marine War team, managing key accounts and working directly with vessel owners to place war risks and deliver premium growth.
Prior to joining HH, Lewis was a Senior Insurance Broker at Vanguard, where he helped develop the war portfolio following its launch as an independent brokerage. Working across international markets with a strong focus on the Middle East, he built and managed a global book and established relationships worldwide.
James Horn
Senior Broker
James joined Hayward Hoy in 2026 as a Senior Broker. He has over fifteen years of experience across underwriting, broking, and corporate insurance leadership within the marine, logistics, and energy sectors. ​His expertise spans Hull & Machinery, War, Cargo, and broader risk transfer solutions, with a strong track record of delivering competitive placements and tailored coverage for a wide range of operations and projects.

Prior to joining HH, James led the global insurance function at Vanguard and managed the insurance programmes for major tanker operator AET. He also spent time as an Underwriter at Thomas Miller, giving him a well-rounded perspective across the full insurance lifecycle - from underwriting and claims through to placement and strategic advisory. ​James works closely with shipowners, operators, and industry stakeholders to navigate complex risk environments, leveraging strong relationships across the London and international markets to deliver effective and responsive insurance solutions.
Toby Farr
Account Handler
Toby graduated from the University of Exeter with a degree in Business Management and previously worked at CFC, gaining valuable experience in the insurance market.
Now an Account Handler at HH, he supports the day-to-day management of client accounts, including policy administration and renewals.
He is currently studying towards his CII qualifications and is committed to delivering a high standard of client service.
Matthew Fish
Account Handler
Matthew graduated from Sheffield Hallam University with a First-Class Honours Business degree. Matthew has been with HH from the beginning and has been an integral part of the business since. Currently working in the role of Account Handler and studying towards the CII certification, Matthew supports the day-to-day management of client accounts and plays a key role in ensuring a high standard of service delivery.
Tammy Willens
IBA Accounts Manager
Tammy joined the HH team in 2025 as our IBA Accounts Manager and has 10 years experience in insurance operation and finance functions. Tammy’s experience ranges across various classes of insurance including Marine, Casualty, Personal Accident and Travel. Cert CII and AAT qualified, Tammy leads the credit control and finance team at HH.
Charlie McHale
Account Handler
Charlie joined HH in January 2025 after he graduated from the University of Nottingham and has supported the business’s ongoing operations since joining. Currently working as an Account Handler, Charlie supports the daily management of client accounts, overseeing policy administration and renewals while ensuring efficient service and strong client relationships.
